Coke Fest finally concluded after warming the crowd for 3 days at Lake City Lahore in a grand way. The highlight of the entire show was definitely the star-studded line up of musicians who performed their heart out for the Zinda Dilan-e-Lahore. The festival closed with an exclusive performance of Atif Aslam – the superstar of Pakistan. We specially went to Lake City just because when we were there to interview the sensational Natasha Baig (stay tuned for that), we got to watch Atif at the sound check. The way he sang Mahi Ve and Jal Pari had our heart right there and no matter what happened, we were not going to miss out on that performance because apparently it seemed that it was going to be Non-bollywood performance.
After a tiring day, with so much going on, we finally managed to get back to Lake City only for Atif’s performance hoping to get awestruck with nostalgia especially after Nescafe Basement’s version of Aadat. Let me add further that last Atif's concert I attended was way back in 2004.However, it turned out to be the opposite because the way he screwed Aadat was hurting. Aadat is a kind of a song with an appealing melody and Atif altered it with useless improvisations. Though the crowd was enjoying but we can be sure that they were not enjoying the melody but the fact that THE ATIF ASLAM was in front of them.
We can’t comment on the rest of the performance but Aadat was awful. We would have been happier if the show was closed on a high but that version of Aadat was certainly not worth it. Wish that he stops doing commercial music for some time and start working on quality music just like good old days.
