A String of Voice from Lahore to Delhi

Social Media is a strange place. While we get to see a lot of hatred on it, from across the border, we also encounter some unique cases and I am about to mention one of them. This is a pure example of the statement "Art has no boundaries". A few days back a message popped up in our Twitter inbox from a young man who showed huge appreciation towards Pakistani media and how he has always endorsed Pakistani music and artists. After exchanging few messages, I could sense his love for our people and before I could ask anything else, he requested me that If we could share his message for one Pakistan's most celebrated RJs "Sophiya Anjam" aka RJ Sophie. So here is young Nihit's thought on our very favorite Sophie

We all are aware that she’s associated with many organizations. But people don’t know that she is living her childhood dream, “Social work was something which called out to me even as a kid. I felt happy helping the needy and doing well for others.”

Ample qualities in one woman, definitely it’s enough for anyone to get inspired by. Talking about my journey with Sophie, first I just used to tweet her randomly. But then one day I got to know that she hosts a show. So, it all began in September 2016, where for the first time I tuned in to her show. I was amazed by her communications skills and soon became a regular listener of the show "Drive on With Sophie". After that, we started to interact regularly on Twitter and later she added on Instagram as well because as all the great artists do, she firmly believes that it is good to interact with her serious listeners.

Last year in 2017 while I was studying radio, I decided that making a radio link for her on her birthday would be a perfect idea. In the link mentioned, all those occasions where Sophie read my opinions on air. Sophie's feedback was one of those moments which I will cherish forever. She was quite touched by this small gesture. This year on my birthday, Sophie surprised me by taking me to live on her show. I remember 5 minutes before I was supposed to go live, I spoke to her on phone. I remember getting goosebumps when she came on the phone. I was on the air for 5 minutes and that feeling is completely out of the world.

What fascinates me the most about her is her love and admiration for Pakistani music. Sophie grew up listening to music of 80's and 90's and still, she loves listening to them. She considers music an essential part of her life and in her own words, she says "I love 80's and 90's music. Music is a big part of my life, be it on the radio, laptop, my phone, bluetooth speaker, anywhere I go"

In most radio shows, listeners are usually neglected but as an RJ, Sophie's main aim is to interact with her listeners and listen to their feedback and requests in a welcoming manner. For that, she keeps a "Topic of Discussion" where the listeners can give their opinions and the messages will get featured on the show right away. She is spontaneous, never feel shy to show her love for her listeners, giving freedom to her audience to express their views and most importantly she knows how to set the tone for the whole audience.

In my opinion, as an RJ, Sophiya is in a league of her own and she is progressing day by day. I wish her all the best for her future endeavors. May she achieve all that she wishes for. (Nihit Anand, New Delhi)
